Whirlaway, a world class provider of manufacturing services to the precision
metal components industry, has an opening for a Production Planner
Supervisor.
Qualified candidates must have:
• A Bachelors degree in materials management, production planning or
related field from a four-year college or university (equivalent related
production planning experience also considered)
• Minimum of five years progressive experience in materials management
• Demonstrated leadership skills
• Ability to provide cross-departmental oversight
The Production Planner Supervisor performs all aspects of production planning
and scheduling, inventory, shipping and receiving for a multi-site operation.
Position also involves team coordination with emphasis on customer and
associate satisfaction while improving efficiency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other
duties may be assigned.
• Safe operation of all department processes. Identifies improvements
needed and leads project for implementation. Continually monitors
area and solicits feedback from associates. Enforce all safety rules and
regulations. Actively participates in safety, health and wellness initiatives.
•Supervise team members. Ensures effective associate relations. Resolves
issues through problem resolution.
•Provides leadership through effective communications, coaching, training
and development. Sets goals and objectives and provides support.
• Coordinates the flow of information from Whirlaway customers and
subcontractors throughout the organization to ensure that delivery and
customer service goals are clear.
• Production planning and scheduling. Plans production activity by using
Master Production Schedule to establish sequence and lead time of each
operation to meet Whirlaway delivery and production goals; schedules
work centers to optimize human and capital resources.
• Coordinates flow of material to/from manufacturing areas to support
Whirlaway production and delivery goals.
• Measures team performance through commonly accepted metrics.
• Coordinates Whirlaway’s DOT Compliance program, including maintaining
driver qualification files, auditing log sheets, auditing inspection reports,
and acting as the Whirlaway liaison to the DOT Random Testing
Consortium. Ensures driver records are accurate and maintained.
Ensures required driver training/testing is completed.
• Assists in analyzing and prioritizing potential shortage situations that
would disrupt Whirlaway delivery and production goals. Assists in
developing recovery plans. Coordinates efforts designed to avoid these
situations while operating within cost guidelines.
Assist in analysis of Whirlaway product line with a goal of reducing lead
times, controlling part numbers, and controlling bucket size and number of
buckets to ultimately reduce overall inventory requirements.
Responsible for identification and inventory accuracy of all Whirlaway
owned material in the facility and at subcontractors. (standard of
performance—auditors will be able to identify every skid of product.)
Plans production activity by using Master Production Schedule to establish
sequence and lead time of each operation to meet Whirlaway delivery and
production goals; schedules work centers to optimize human and capital
resources.
Monitors bill of resources and production activity for accuracy of standard
rates (material and processing), and recommends courses of action to
correct inaccuracies.
Monitors and adjusts schedules to compensate for unanticipated
circumstances.
Monitors changing events and suggests required changes to scheduling
parameters (i.e. lead times, bucket sizes, etc.).
Enters manufacturing orders and prints pan cards.
Coordinates flow of material to/from manufacturing areas to support
Whirlaway production and delivery goals.
Measures team performance for safety, quality, delivery, and cost. Work
with team and other business functions to continually improve these
measures.
Implement department improvement efforts, specifically the continuous
improvement of the MRP system for improved inventory accuracy and on-
time delivery.
Assists in the implementation and maintenance of TS.
Arranges schedule to meet customer needs and to assist with physical
inventory activities when necessary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the
Materials Department. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with
the organization’s policies and applicable laws including OSHA regulations.
Responsibilities include timekeeping, interviewing, hiring, and training associates,
planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and
disciplining; addressing concerns and resolving issues.
SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
• APICS training preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills both written and verbal skills to communicate with
suppliers and associates at all levels.

Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others
High attention to detail and ability to think ahead.
• Ability to utilize spreadsheets and word processing software to perform analysis and
create reports.
• Organizational skills including ability to prioritize among multiple tasks and to maintain
efficiency.
